Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions people ask most about our scoreboards, from paid features and sharing to TVs, live streams and Stream Deck.
Can't find your question? See the scoreboard types or get in touch.
Why does my timer show the wrong time on the display?
If the timer shows different times on the admin view vs. public display, check your computer's clock settings.
The scoreboard calculates timer values using system time. If your device's clock is wrong, the timer will display incorrectly.
Fix: Enable automatic time sync in your device's date/time settings.
What scoreboard features require a paid plan?
Basic scoreboard features are free forever. A paid plan unlocks:
Visual Enhancements:
- Remove "Made with Keepthescore.com" branding
- Upload team/player logos
- Custom team colors
See full details and pricing on our pricing page.
How do I share my scoreboard and what are the different link types?
Click the "Open Display Scoreboard" button to access your scoreboard sharing options. Sports scoreboards provide two types of links:
1. Display Scoreboard URL
- Clean scoreboard view perfect for displays, streaming, or projection
- Add to OBS, Streamlabs, XSplit, vMix, or other streaming software
- Multiple layout options available (scorebug, stacked, full screen)
- Available to all users (free and Pro)
2. Scorekeeper Link
- Share with someone who will keep score during the game
- Can control scores instantly but cannot change setup
- Perfect for assistant coaches or helpers
- Available to all users (free and Pro)
3. Shot clock / play clock link (basketball and football)
- Shows only the shot clock (basketball) or play clock (football), full screen
- For a screen mounted above each basket or at the end of the field
- Open it on as many screens as you like — they all stay in step with the game clock
- In the display dialog, click "Want the shot clock on a screen of its own?"
- Available to all users (free and Pro)
Features include:
- Copy links to clipboard
- Generate QR codes for easy mobile access
- Multiple layout options for different displays
- Full-screen mode (double-click scoreboard background)
Tip: The display scoreboard is optimized for streaming and public displays, while your admin view includes controls and setup options.
Can I show just the shot clock on its own screen?
Yes. Basketball and football boards can hand out a link that shows only the shot clock (or, on football, the play clock) — full screen, with nothing else on it.
This is what you want for a display mounted above each basket, or at the end of the field, where a full scoreboard would bury the clock among everything else.
To get the link:
- Open the "Open Display Scoreboard" dialog on your board
- Click "Want the shot clock on a screen of its own?"
- Copy the link, and open it on each screen
Every screen showing that link shows the same count, in step with the others and with the board, so there is nothing to start, stop or sync by hand — you run the clock from the control panel as usual, and it behaves exactly as it does on your scoreboard.
Changing the count: the shot clock duration is a board setting, so you are not locked to the 24-second default. Set it to 30, 35 or whatever your league uses in the Setup panel under Timer settings.
Tip: double-click a display to put it full screen.
How do I display my scoreboard on a TV or large screen?
Display your sports scoreboard on a TV for a professional event experience:
Connection Methods:
- HDMI Cable: Connect computer directly to TV
- Streaming Device: Use Chromecast, Apple TV, or similar dongle
- Two-Device Setup: Control from phone/tablet, display on separate TV-connected device
Setup Steps:
- Click "Open Display Scoreboard" in your preview panel
- Copy the Display Scoreboard URL
- Open URL in browser on your TV-connected device
- Double-click scoreboard for full-screen mode
See our TV display guide for detailed setup instructions and hardware recommendations.
How do I add my scoreboard to a live stream?
Add professional scoreboard overlays to your live stream in minutes:
Quick Setup:
- Create your scoreboard and customize team names/colors
- Click "Open Display Scoreboard" and choose a "Scorebug" layout
- Copy the overlay URL
- Add as "Browser Source" in OBS, Streamlabs, vMix, or other streaming software
Popular Streaming Software:
- OBS Studio: Most popular free option
- Streamlabs: User-friendly with built-in alerts
- vMix: Professional multi-camera switching
- XSplit: Easy-to-use commercial solution
The scoreboard appears as a transparent overlay on your video feed with real-time score updates.
See our comprehensive streaming software guide with step-by-step tutorials for each platform.
What should I do if my scoreboard fails to load in OBS?
If your scoreboard isn't loading properly in OBS, try these troubleshooting steps:
First, identify the issue:
- Does it show a spinning loading icon, or is it just blank?
- Try right-clicking on the browser source in OBS and selecting "Refresh" - does that fix it?
- Check the OBS log file (Help menu → Log Files → View Current Log). Look for any red error messages or anything mentioning "keepthescore" and send us a screenshot.
Check your OBS browser source settings:
In your browser source properties, make sure "Shutdown source when not visible" is unchecked. This setting can sometimes cause connection issues.
If problems persist, please contact us with details about what you're seeing and any error messages from the logs.
Can I save and reuse team configurations across multiple scoreboards?
Yes! Team Management lets you save team configurations (colors, logos, names, records) and reuse them instantly:
What You Can Save:
- Team name and colors (primary, secondary, text, background)
- Team logos and images
- Team records (wins/losses)
- Sport-specific settings (like timeout colors)
How It Works:
- Configure your team in any scoreboard's Setup Panel
- Click "Save Team" to add it to your personal library
- When creating future scoreboards, click "Load Team" to apply saved configurations instantly
- Search your library to quickly find teams
Important: Saved teams are sport-specific. Basketball teams only appear for basketball scoreboards, football teams only for football, etc. You cannot reuse teams across different sports.
See our complete Team Management guide for detailed instructions, pro tips, and real-world use cases for league administrators and tournament directors.
Can I control my scoreboard with physical buttons using Stream Deck?
Yes! If you have an Elgato Stream Deck, you can control your sports scoreboard with physical buttons:
Supported Sports:
- Basketball (score increments, fouls, periods, timers)
- Baseball and Softball (runs, outs, innings, base runners)
- Football (touchdowns, field goals, downs, quarters)
- Soccer (goals, match clock, halves)
- Hockey (goals, shots on goal, periods)
- Volleyball (points, sets, serve)
- Badminton, Pickleball and Squash (points, games, serve)
- Universal Scoreboard (score, fouls, timeouts, periods, possession)
Tennis is not supported: its game-point scoring (15/30/40/advantage) does not map onto the plugin's increment actions.
Quick Setup:
- Install the Keepthescore.com plugin from the Elgato Marketplace
- Copy your scoreboard token (the 13-character code from your admin URL)
- Drag actions to your Stream Deck buttons
- Configure each button with your token and choose the action
See our complete Stream Deck integration guide for detailed setup instructions, sport-specific controls, and troubleshooting tips.
Do you have an accessibility statement or VPAT?
Yes. Our Accessibility Conformance Report is based on VPAT 2.5 (WCAG Edition) and covers WCAG 2.1 A+AA and the WCAG 2.2 A+AA delta. We can also provide a re-dated copy on request for procurement at [email protected].
Can I add a scrolling news ticker to my stream?
Yes — the Stream Ticker board type is a lower-third scrolling text bar built for live streams:
- Write one message per line (results, announcements, sponsor credits) and press Update ticker — every viewer sees the change within a second
- The public link renders on a transparent page, ready to drop into OBS, Streamlabs, or vMix as a browser source
- A master switch slides the bar off air during breaks and back in when you need it
- A pinned title box ("LIVE", your event name) sits at the left while messages scroll past
Create one from the scoreboard chooser, and see the Stream Ticker guide for a full walkthrough.
How do I hide the ticker during a break without losing my text?
Use the master switch at the top of the ticker's control panel. Turning it off slides the bar out of frame on the public display — your messages are kept, and your admin preview shows a ghost of the bar so you can still see what's queued. Turn the switch back on and the bar slides back in with the same text.
Does the GAA scoreboard support the new two-point score?
Yes. The Gaelic football scoreboard has a dedicated 2-Pointer button for kicks from on or outside the 40m arc under the 2025 Football Review Committee rules. It adds 2 to the points column, so the scoreline stays in official goals-points notation — for example 2-10, with an optional derived total like 2-10 (16).
Scores are one tap each, matching the umpire's flags: Goal (green flag), 2-Pointer (orange flag), Point (white flag). See the GAA scoreboard guide for a full walkthrough.
Can I use the GAA scoreboard for hurling or camogie?
Yes — hurling and camogie use the same goals-points scoring, so the Gaelic football scoreboard works for them out of the box. Just ignore the 2-Pointer button, which is a football-only rule. The count-up match clock, injury-time indicator, and half management all apply the same way.
Does the rugby scoreboard support both Union and League scoring?
Yes — there are two rugby boards, one per code, and each scores its four events with the correct values. Rugby Union: try 5, conversion 2, penalty 3, drop goal 3. Rugby League: try 4, conversion 2, penalty 2, drop goal 1. Pick your code when you create the board; the layouts, count-up match clock, and controls are identical. See the rugby scoreboard guide for a full walkthrough.
How does the rugby scoreboard handle a penalty try?
Score it as a try plus a conversion — that's the 7 points a Union penalty try awards (League: 4 + 2). There's no separate penalty-try button; the four event buttons plus the correction buttons cover every scoreline. The optional try counter (like 27 (3T)) counts it as a try either way.
